About Lydia

Hi, I’m a fully qualified Secondary Design and Technology teacher with a PGCE and QTS, awarded with Distinction from Sheffield Hallam University. I’ve taught in a variety of schools across Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire, delivering engaging and creative lessons in subjects such as woodwork, textiles, food technology, engineering, and CAD. My classroom experience has given me the skills to support students of all abilities, helping them grow in confidence and reach their full potential—both in practical work and in written coursework. I believe in building a positive, supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged and inspired to develop their ideas. I chose to become a teacher because I’m passionate about design, creativity, and helping young people succeed. I know how important it is to feel confident and prepared—especially when working towards exams or coursework deadlines. That’s why I focus on providing clear guidance, tailored feedback, and structured revision strategies to help students feel more in control of their learning. About the lesson

As a qualified secondary Design and Technology teacher with classroom experience across a variety of disciplines including woodwork, CAD, textiles, and food technology, I take a personalised and compassionate approach to tutoring. I understand that every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching methods to suit individual needs and confidence levels. Whether it’s breaking down complex concepts or providing step-by-step project guidance, I aim to create a calm, supportive environment where students feel heard, encouraged, and motivated to achieve their full potential. My experience working with a diverse range of learners, including those with additional needs, means I am patient, approachable, and skilled in tailoring lessons for maximum impact. I specialise in helping students prepare for GCSE exams and coursework assessments by focusing on the areas where they need the most support. From interpreting briefs and improving design ideas, to strengthening written elements and time management, I guide students through practical and theoretical content with structured plans and revision resources. My teaching background has equipped me with the skills to track progress, provide meaningful feedback, and make real-time adjustments to ensure consistent improvement.
