About Claire
Over the years I have successfully supported a wide range of learners from high achievers aiming for top grades to students with SEN or those who have struggled with confidence in English. My approach is structured, calm, and encouraging. My lessons are designed to be structured, supportive, and highly personalised. I begin by assessing each student’s current level and goals, whether that is preparing for GCSE/IGCSE exams or building a strong foundation as a home-educated learner. From there, I create a clear plan that develops analytical skills, essay writing techniques, and confident use of ambitious vocabulary, while also ensuring students understand texts in depth. I use a mixture of guided practice, model answers, and interactive tasks to keep lessons engaging and focused. For Literature, we look closely at themes, characters, and writer’s methods, always linking back to exam-style questions. For Language, I focus on comprehension, critical reading, and writing with clarity, structure, and creativity. Lessons often include targeted feedback so that students know exactly how to improve their work. Most lessons are one hour long, but I adapt this depending on the student’s age and concentration. I have over ten years of teaching and tutoring experience, hold a PGCE with QTS, an MA in English Education, and have prepared students for GCSE, IGCSE, and entrance exams with strong results. These lessons are suitable for students from Year 7 upwards, including home-educated learners who need structured English courses, as well as those in school preparing for GCSE/IGCSE English Language and Literature.
