About Fred

I am a polyglot born in Alsace, France. I grew up in a house where 3 languages were spoken regularly, and studied another two for my "Baccalauréat". By the age of 18, I could speak French, Alsatian, German, English and Italian. I studied English linguistics, literature and history at the University of Strasbourg. Their open approach to Foreign languages allowed me to also study Japanese, Dutch, Norwegian, Old Norse and later on Spanish. Alongside those languages, I studied history of Indo-European languages, understanding how all languages interlink. I moved to the UK, where I settled. I gained my QTS at the University of Warwick and gained a wide range of experience, teaching in comprehensive, all-boys, grammar and private schools. Alongside teaching, I offered tutoring services to support students through their exams. I also had many opportunities to teach bilingual children the French curriculum and prepare them for either a return to France, or to help them become more confident in their own skills. I am now offering tuition to adults who want to sharpen their French skills.

About the lesson

I am a native French speaker with a PGCE, trained in the UK, and with over 10 years of experience teaching in the classroom (from Reception to A-Level). Alongside this, I have also delivered more than 10 years of private tutoring to students of all ages, from primary to A-Level, supporting exam preparation as well as transitions into the French educational system. Over time, I have developed a wide range of skills that enable me to guide learners effectively towards their goals. In our first lesson, I take time to: Identify your learner profile Assess any challenges you may face Understand your goals Begin work on spoken comprehension and expression From there, I create a tailored learning plan, explaining how lessons will be structured and which tools we will use. Whether you are starting French for the very first time, revisiting it after finding it overwhelming in the past, or seeking to deepen your understanding of French language and culture, my aim is to support you in a way that feels natural, structured, and motivating. I also work with families where French is a heritage language, helping parents support their children’s learning. If you are preparing for French citizenship, brushing up your conversational skills for travel, or simply wanting to enjoy French more confidently, I can help. In addition, as a native French speaker who has lived in the UK for over 15 years, I have reached a near-native level of English. Having studied English language and linguistics at university, I combine a deep understanding of English grammar with fluency to help French learners build confidence in their English skills too.
