About Dulcie
I am a calm, friendly and approachable primary teacher with 15 years of experience working with children across the primary age range. I have a good sense of humour and enjoy creating a relaxed, positive environment where children feel comfortable, supported and able to be themselves.
I am passionate about diversity and inclusion and believe that every child should feel valued, understood and able to succeed. I particularly enjoy getting to know each child as an individual, understanding their strengths, interests and learning style, and finding creative and imaginative ways to help them engage with learning.
I love being creative in my teaching and enjoy using children's interests to make lessons memorable and enjoyable. I believe that learning doesn't always have to look like sitting at a desk and completing a worksheet!
I find it especially rewarding to see a child's confidence grow when they begin to understand something they previously found difficult. I offer tuition because I want to use my experience to give children the individual attention, encouragement and personalised support that can be difficult to provide in a busy classroom.
Whether a child needs additional academic support, a confidence boost, or specialist support with SEN, my aim is for them to finish each lesson feeling more confident, positive and ready to learn.

I am a qualified primary teacher with a PGCE and QTS, as well as a TESOL qualification for teaching English as a foreign language. I have 15 years of classroom teaching experience and have also taught English as a foreign language and delivered small-group music lessons.
I have extensive experience supporting children with SEN and additional learning needs, including children with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, behavioural needs, attachment needs, anxiety and low self-esteem. I am passionate about inclusion and believe that effective teaching starts with understanding each child's individual strengths, needs and interests.
I have a wide range of resources and strategies to support learners, including sensory and movement breaks, visual resources, colour overlays and reading rulers, sensory seating, calm spaces and ear defenders. I can adapt the pace, structure and presentation of lessons to help children feel comfortable, engaged and ready to learn.
I have successfully created personalised provision for individual children. For example, I supported a child experiencing severe anxiety and low self-esteem through tailored resources and regular communication with their parent. For a child with autism, I developed personalised strategies including sensory breaks, a reward system linked to their interests and a quiet space to help them regulate and engage with learning.
My approach is friendly, patient and encouraging. I use a mixture of visual, practical and multisensory resources, discussion, questioning, games and structured activities, adapting these according to the child. I aim to build confidence and independence alongside academic skills.
Lessons are typically one hour, although I can adapt the length depending on the child's age, needs and concentration.
I can support children across primary subjects and the primary curriculum, including children who need help catching up, consolidating their learning, preparing for SATs or developing confidence and independence.
My tuition is suitable for children aged 5–11, including children with SEN and additional learning needs. I offer face-to-face tuition in Brighton and online lessons.
