About Sophie
My name is Sophie and I am a KS1 teacher working in inner London. I have experience in teaching children from many different backgrounds and am able to differentiate work to meet the needs of different learners and learning styles.
I am a strong believer in the power of talk when learning and encourage learners to explore their ideas out loud through fun and creative activities.

I am a UK qualified primary teacher with a experience in teaching children from a variety of backgrounds including EAL and SEND. I am a strong believer in the importance of literacy skills and am skilled in improving reading and writing ability in young children.
Phonics is an important step in the journey to reading and writing. By learning the different sounds letters make and blending these sounds into words your child will quickly build the skills needed to start reading. Phonics lessons are usually about 30 minutes long and include learning new sounds, reading different words, handwriting and writing practise.
If your child is able to confidently read you may want to focus on comprehension. This skill is often overlooked but is crucial to understanding what they are reading. Comprehension lessons will focus on one book. Each lesson we will practise a different skill such as retrieval, inference, vocabulary and prediction.
Creative writing is not just about having a good imagination but is having the confidence to translate reading skills into writing. We will do this by starting with a focus book and using this to launch into a a variety of different written pieces such as letters, stories, information texts and so on.
