About Graham
Bonjour! I'm Graham, a qualified GTCS-registered secondary French teacher based in Scotland. I currently teach French in a Scottish secondary school and am passionate about helping students build confidence, achieve their academic goals and develop a genuine enjoyment of the language. I also have a proven track record in achieving strong results for pupils.
I know that learning a language can sometimes feel intimidating, especially when preparing for important exams. My aim is to create a relaxed, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and steadily improving. Every learner is different, so I tailor my lessons to suit each student's strengths, areas for development and learning style.
I hold a BA (Hons) in Journalism, Media and Communication and French from the University of Strathclyde, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Secondary Education (French). Through my classroom experience, I have taught pupils across Broad General Education, National 4 and National 5, while also supporting Higher and Advanced Higher classes. This has given me a thorough understanding of the Scottish curriculum and what students need to succeed in their assessments.
Whether you're aiming to improve your confidence in class, achieve your target grade in National 5 or Higher, prepare for Advanced Higher, or simply learn French for personal interest, I'll provide structured, encouraging lessons designed to help you make steady progress.
I look forward to helping you achieve your goals and discover that learning French can be both rewarding and enjoyable.

Learning a language should be engaging, structured and tailored to the individual learner. As a GTCS-registered secondary French teacher, I aim to build confidence as well as knowledge, helping pupils understand why they are using the language rather than simply memorising vocabulary.
I teach:
S1–S3 (Broad General Education)
National 4 French
National 5 French
Higher French
Advanced Higher French
Adult beginners looking to learn conversational French
Lessons are usually 60 minutes, although I also offer 45-minute sessions for younger learners and 90-minute sessions for students who would benefit from more intensive exam preparation.
My lessons are planned around each student's needs and goals. Whether you're preparing for National 5 or Higher exams, looking to improve classroom performance, or building a stronger foundation in French, I adapt my teaching accordingly. Lessons typically include a mix of speaking, listening, reading and writing, alongside grammar explained in a clear and accessible way. I also use retrieval practice, modelling and exam-style questions to reinforce learning and improve long-term retention.
I currently teach French in a Scottish secondary school and have experience teaching pupils across Broad General Education (S1–S3), National 4 and National 5, as well as supporting Higher and Advanced Higher classes. This means I understand both the Scottish curriculum and the skills that examiners are looking for. I hold a BA (Hons) in Journalism, Media and Communication and French from the University of Strathclyde, along with a PGDE in Secondary Education (French).
Above all, I strive to create a friendly, supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and developing confidence in using French. My aim is not only to improve grades but also to help students enjoy learning the language.
