About David

I am a full time musician, composer, arranger, and conductor.

I am a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Bachelor of Music with Honours) in jazz drums and vibraphone.

Whilst studying at the Conservatorium, I have had the privilege of teaching drum set, percussion, theory, aural, classroom materials, and ensemble music, to a number of students at Just Percussion, Queensland’s premier drum store and teaching studio, some of whom have progressed to the Conservatorium of music and/or have professional performing careers themselves.

I have a particular interest in educating strong playing technique, for all musical genres, as well as composing and arranging.

I am able to teach students to confidently perform repertoire, whilst developing their musicianship to understand how percussion supports other ensemble members.

I believe that diversifying and learning both drum set and percussion is vital for any percussionist in today’s musical landscape, and I convey this to my students as a fundamental component to the lesson structure I use.

About the lesson

If you are a beginner and would like to explore? Or an intermediate player that would like to develop? David can guide, teach and take you, from your beginning to a well advanced professional level.

David has a wide range of experience, performing and educating which has underpinned his teaching ability. Equal fourth place HSC Music in 2016 as well as a Tertiary Education in Jazz and Percussion from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. David has worked professionally as a musician for The Queensland Symphony Orchestra, New South Wales Schools Spectacular, New South Wales State Wind Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and other professional Conservatorium ensembles.

David also Tutors at Music Camps and Youth Orchestras across Queensland and New South Wales. He has the ability to progress his students to the professional levels such as; Schools Spectacular, AMEB Exams, Festivals of Performing Arts as well as prepare students for Tertiary Education.

David explores the realms of drum set, tuned and untuned percussion and can tailor a learning syllabus, specific to the way you learn.
