About Shayla

I am currently a student at the University of Chicago planning to major in Economics with a specialization in Business, and I am writing to express my interest in becoming a tutor for your organization. The organization piqued my interest because I have experience in the tutoring field, and would love to help other students on their journey to success and improvement. As a scholar myself, I am aware of the expectations required to learn. Therefore, I strongly believe my experience and knowledge as well as my willingness to help others will be a great asset to your tutoring organization.

During high school, I founded a tutoring program partnering with a local youth club track team. The athletes a part of this track program came from minority and relatively low income backgrounds. Thus, the schools they attended lacked certain resources for proper education. Ultimately, they grew up in an environment where education was not as valued as in other more privileged areas. Through my program, I aimed to teach and inspire these athletes into valuing their education. I organized the program, structuring the schedule and partnering students with tutors of whom I felt were best fit. With this, I practiced my leadership skills as well as my collaboration skills. My ability to plan curriculum to teach these athletes is reflected in their performance as students, for they all began to excel in the classroom, some in honor roll and everyone passing all of their classes.

About the lesson

Have had several experiences tutoring young students and have found continuous success . Have the ability to relate to young individuals with certain academic struggles and teach them that their struggles can become strengths.

Lessons typically consist of review of assignments as well as run through of any questions students may have. Then there is preparation of engaging activities to make students excited to learn. Then finally a new assignment which will be reviewed in the next lesson.
