About Tori
I attended Middlebury College and earned a degree in Latin American Studies, with a minor in Education. I am passionate about sharing knowledge with others and to make the process of learning feel like an accomplishment, not an obstacle.In proper liberal arts fashion, my time at Middlebury taught me so much more than simply a language; I studied the history, sociology, geography, as well as the social and political landscape of Latin America. I feel I have a unique insight to the language, which especially at higher levels of learning Spanish becomes invaluable in understanding nuance! I have lived abroad in several Spanish-speaking countries, and I can also connect with the feeling of being a learner, being new at something and struggling to make sense of things. Paired with my background in Education I think I am uniquely positioned to create a tutoring experience that effectively meets your goals and creates growth in knowledge. I have had years experience in a wide range of teaching capacities, and believe in a mix of guided step-by-step instruction and independent problem-solving or comprehension. Especially with language acquisition, continually exposing yourself to the language and attempting to use it frequently are critically important! Lessons will be as immersive in Spanish as they can be depending on your level.
-Beginners will start with common vocabulary and verbs, conjugation, basic grammatical structures
-Intermediate students will continue expanding vocabulary and be comfortable conjugating verbs in the three basic tenses, and working on using more advanced conjugations.
-Advanced students will put what they know to work to try and improve conversational skills, language comprehension, as well as media studies to improve language and cultural nuance.
All lessons can be totally customizable with where you are at and what your goals are!
