About Chanel
My tutoring approach is centered around personalized instruction, patience, and building student confidence. I specialize in beginner French, as well as elementary and middle school English and math for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. I work with students who need academic support, homework help, skill-building, enrichment, or additional practice to strengthen their foundation.
Before beginning lessons, I conduct a pre-assessment to understand each student’s current level, strengths, and areas for growth. I use a backward planning approach, where I first identify the learning goal and then design lessons, activities, and practice exercises to help students achieve that goal. My teaching techniques include clear explanations, interactive activities, guided practice, real-world examples, and positive reinforcement to support different learning styles.

I am a dedicated tutor serving students throughout the DMV area, with a recent Master of Public Administration (MPA), a Bachelor of Arts in French and Communications, and over 15 years of experience working with children and families. I also served as a teaching assistant at a bilingual school in Madrid, Spain, where I supported students from diverse backgrounds as they developed their English language skills in a multicultural learning environment.
I specialize in tutoring elementary and middle school students in English, including reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary development, and communication skills. Before creating lessons, I conduct a pre-assessment to understand each student’s current level, strengths, and areas for improvement. Using a backward planning approach, I establish clear learning goals and design personalized lessons that help students strengthen their language skills and build confidence.
My teaching style is patient, engaging, and supportive. I focus on creating a comfortable environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, practice new skills, and make progress at their own pace.
