About Mia
I am a registered Australian secondary school teacher with eight years’ experience teaching English and Humanities across Years 7–10, and VCE English (Years 11–12).
I work part-time as a classroom teacher while maintaining a dedicated tutoring practice, supporting students online with reading, writing, and analytical skills aligned with Australian secondary and senior secondary assessment expectations.

My lessons are tailored to the individual student. The initial 30-minute introductory lesson on Superprof is used as a diagnostic session, allowing me to identify current strengths, areas for development, and the most effective focus for ongoing lessons.
Improvement in English — particularly in writing and essay work — comes through deliberate practice, revision, and refinement, rather than memorisation or shortcuts. My approach reflects this.
Years 7–9
The focus is on:
-general literacy and reading comprehension
-vocabulary development
-building confidence in expressing ideas clearly in writing
Years 9–10
Lessons increasingly focus on:
-sequencing ideas logically
-developing clearer paragraph structure
-distinguishing between formal, informal, and creative writing styles
Vocabulary is developed through authentic learning, using quality texts and material connected to students’ genuine interests. This allows students to internalise language naturally so that, by Years 11–12 (VCE), lessons can focus more directly on assessment demands.
Years 11–12 (VCE English, VCE Literature, VCE EAL)
The focus is on:
-reading texts efficiently
-responding clearly and effectively under time conditions
-writing structured, analytical responses with confidence
For senior school students, marking work together during lessons is an important part of the process, as it helps students identify recurring patterns in their own writing — such as tautology, unclear logical sequencing, or the use of overly casual language — and to understand how these patterns affect clarity, precision, and assessment outcomes.
Across all year levels, improvement comes from consistent work in:
-Close and critical reading
-Writing and editing
-Understanding how meaning is constructed and communicated
If a student requires extensive pre-marking, additional homework setting, or regular written feedback outside lesson time, this can be arranged separately.
