About Lois
I am a teacher who loves to learn myself. I am a facilitator of learning to those I am teaching.
I have varied experience teaching reading, and other skills, to children of all ages, from preschool to junior high. I taught students with special learning needs, including dyslexic students and those with other learning disabilities. I have also taught reading skills to children and adults whose primary language is not English.
I specialize in teaching reading skills to those who have not been successful with academic reading skills and who have fallen behind in their reading and other skills in academic settings. And to kindergartners and first graders who might just need some extra help and some extra time to master reading skills.

Have 30+ years experience teaching young learners, and special needs children in public school settings.
Achieved Board certification from the NBPTS, in the area of teaching reading to children.
Now retired, I use the Barton Reading and Spelling Program to help children, and even adults, who struggle to read well; are missing basic reading skills; or who need to read more effectively.
This program is effective at teaching skills readers need; improving fluency and comprehension. It is most effective when taught one on one, in 2 sessions per week, of about 50 minutes per session.
This program is effective for those 5 years of age and up.
It is done, with equal success rates, in person, and remotely over ZOOM platform.
