About Max

I have played violin for almost 20 years, studying under Marjorie Talvi (former concertmaster, Pacific Northwest Ballet), Ilkka Talvi (former concertmaster, Seattle Symphony), and Mara Gearman (Assistant Principal Viola, Seattle Symphony), as well as two years at the Royal Academy of Music in London under Levon Chilingirian, founder of the internationally acclaimed Chilingirian Quartet. I left the Academy to build an arts ticketing company, with the goal of making the arts accessible to new audiences. I have taught violin for 5+ years to all ages and skill levels, and have performed as an orchestral player under top conductors in the UK and Europe, as a chamber musician, and as a soloist.

About the lesson

Each student is different, and I make it a goal to learn about each student's goals and struggles through open communication and non-judgemental conversation. Some weeks will have more progress than others, and I think that's not just fine, but good. Good music making comes from freedom and honesty, and that's what I try to make my lessons about.
Each lesson, I make it clear exactly what the student can do to improve from now to the next lesson, following a clear roadmap and plan of repertoire, technique, and practice.
I share knowledge about music theory, history, and the philosophy of music during lessons to give students broader knowledge and context.
I have taught students of all ages and all skill levels. I can help with a variety of goals, whether learning the instrument or preparing for a concert or audition.
