I had previously tried to learn Farsi/Dari four times, either with other tutors or on my own, but without success for various reasons. When I started learning with Farzad, he asked me what my priorities and interests were, and I told him that I wanted to speak the language fluently, with a vocabulary of the most commonly used words.
The lessons he prepared were varied using material for improving pronunciation and fluency through realistic conversations and day to day vocabulary, some even relating to my work and daily routine which helped me identify with the language more.
We also used a mixture of both textbook as well as multimedia material during the lessons, and over time our conversations during lessons became increasingly mainly in Dari. We also focussed on both the Herati as well as the Kabuli dialect, to assist me in sounding almost like a native.
With Farzad’s help I have become increasingly fluent in Dari, and look forward to what the future holds in employing my new language skills, especially in the work place.
