About Philip

Hi, I'm Phil, a math tutor with over four years of experience helping high school students build confidence and improve their understanding of math. I specialize in SAT and ACT Math preparation while also teaching Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus.

I hold both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). My engineering background has strengthened my analytical and problem-solving skills, which I bring into every lesson.

I believe many students struggle not because they're incapable of learning math, but because they haven't been shown a clear way to approach problems. My goal is to simplify difficult concepts, reduce frustration, and help students become independent, confident problem solvers.

Whether your child is preparing for the SAT or ACT or simply wants to improve their understanding of math, I provide patient, supportive instruction tailored to their learning needs.

About the lesson

Every lesson is designed to help students understand not only how to solve a problem but also why the method works.

Rather than relying on memorization, I teach students how to recognize common question types, identify patterns, and choose effective strategies for solving them. We work through problems together step by step, and I explain my thinking throughout the process so students can learn to apply the same approach on their own.

My lessons focus on:

- Building a strong understanding of the underlying math concepts.
- Recognizing common SAT and ACT question patterns.
- Learning practical problem-solving strategies.
- Avoiding common mistakes that cost valuable points.
- Developing confidence through guided practice and independent problem solving.

I adapt each lesson to the student's current level and pace, making sure they fully understand each concept before moving on. My goal is for students to leave every session feeling more confident, better prepared, and equipped with strategies they can use in school and on exams.
