About Elizabeth

Hello! I'm Elizabeth, a saxophonist, composer and woodwind doubler originally from New Zealand. I'm a graduate of the music Master's program at the New School in Manhattan and now work as a professional musician composing and performing in NY.

I've been teaching private woodwind and piano students of all ages for over eight years now both in New Zealand and New York, working as the iterinant woodwind teacher at Aotea College and Onslow College in Wellington New Zealand, and as a private tutor in New York, as well as work at the Brooklyn Music School and Musecool.

I play in a variety of ensembles in the city ranging from big band to small group jazz to a flute choir! I also love working in arranging and composition, and have a large ensemble project of my own music. I grew up playing in a huge range of different bands and projects from reggae to vocal harmony folk groups to hard rock bands; so I have an understanding and appreciation for all walks of musical life and am always looking for something new to listen to. One of my favourite parts of teaching is when a student shows me something new they've discovered - my itunes library is a delightfully eclectic mix of recommendations!

About the lesson

The top priority for me as a teacher is fun! It's really important to me that the process of sharing and learning music is joyful and enables students to build sustainable and enjoyable creative practices, whatever their stage of life or experience level.

My lessons usually focus on the fundamentals first: tone, technique and aural skills as well as reading music and music theory. I like to tailor the content of lessons to the student's particular interests, which could include areas like improvisation, repertoire of a favourite band or composer, or songwriting and composition.

Details

Lessons are available in my home studio for $60/hour, $50/45 minutes, and $45 for half an hour. I add a $30 fee for travel to your home.
