About Hugo
I’m an experienced tutor specialising in standardised entrance exams from 11+ to the Oxford Thinking Skills Assesment (TSA). The majority of my students are either attending or applying to Eton College, St Paul's, Harrow and Westminster.
I have enjoyed a high success rate despite the competitive nature of these schools, which I think comes in part from the fact that I myself attended St Paul's Juniors - formerly Colet Court - from 2008-12, and St Paul's from 2012 -17.
I have also taught as a TA in the Engineering dept. at St Paul's and thus have marked 7+/11+ entrance exams and am familiar with the interview content.
Admissions Exams:
I think a two-pronged approach is best for standardised exams: getting familiar with the question types and practising past papers.
My structured strategy has yielded great results, with one candidate improving their score from the middle-60s to the middle-70s on the TSA Oxford, the entrance exam for PPE and E&M. Bear in mind the average score for Oxford PPE offer holders is about 73.
The same can be said for 11+ ISEB verbal and non-verbal reasoning exams, as well as US university exams like the ACT. As such, I have my students prep so that they can recognise what kind of question is being asked and it becomes almost second nature.
Admissions Interviews:
Interviews are key to every admissions process that requires them and the best way to improve is by reading and having high-powered, intellectual conversations at ease. It's the part of the process where schools and dons see the applicant and think: do I want to teach this person for the next X number of years?
As a former Teaching Assistant at St Paul's, I know what my colleagues tend to look for at interview. I also know the kind of questions prospective students are asked, what books are considered impressive, and how they need to come across to leave a favourable impression.

I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and completed both the 2017 and 2018 editions of the Safeguarding/Keeping Children Safe in Education Level 2 course.
