About Luca
I teach legal studies because I believe that understanding the law is not just about memorizing facts or rules—it’s about gaining a deeper understanding of the world around us and how we interact with it. The law shapes so much of our daily lives, from how we work to how we live in society, and I want to help you see how powerful that knowledge can be. For me, teaching isn’t just about transferring knowledge—it’s about sparking curiosity and helping you develop critical thinking skills that will serve you beyond exams or assignments. I want to empower you to think analytically, reason logically, and communicate persuasively, all of which are valuable skills no matter what career path you choose. I also know that the law can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to navigate complex concepts or dense legal texts. My goal is to break those barriers down and make the material more approachable, practical, and even exciting. Legal studies is about more than just rules and cases—it’s about understanding the stories behind them and how they affect people’s lives. Ultimately, I want to help you build confidence in your ability to understand and apply the law, not just in exams but in everyday situations. Whether you're studying law as a career or just want to understand how the legal system works, I’m here to guide you and support you every step of the way.

1. Active Learning and Case-Based Approach
Real-world cases are a great way to make abstract legal concepts more tangible. Have students read landmark cases and then break them down: who are the parties, what’s the issue, how did the court reason, and what precedent was set?
Case summaries: Encourage students to summarize key cases in their own words. This helps with retention and understanding.
Problem-based learning: Present hypothetical scenarios (fact patterns) and have students apply relevant legal principles. This builds critical thinking and helps them prepare for exams.
2. Teach Conceptually First, Then Dive into Details
Before getting bogged down in statutes or case law, ensure a solid understanding of foundational legal concepts (e.g., the difference between civil and criminal law, the structure of the court system).
Once those foundations are in place, dive into the application of concepts within specific areas of law like contract law, torts, or constitutional law.
3. Exam and Essay Writing Techniques
IRAC Method (Issue, Rule, Application, Conclusion): This is key for structuring essays and responses in law exams. Encourage students to start every legal analysis by identifying the issue, stating the relevant legal rules, applying the rules to the facts, and then concluding with a reasoned judgment.
Past exams and practice questions: Have students practice answering past exam questions under timed conditions to get them used to exam pressure.
Exam strategy: Teach students how to plan their responses before writing to ensure clarity and organization. This reduces the chances of missing critical elements.
4. Building Legal Vocabulary
Legal studies often have its own dense vocabulary, so spend time teaching legal terminology in context. This can be through flashcards, quizzes, or by incorporating legal terms into everyday conversation.
Help them develop the skill to read legal texts with confidence, identifying key terms and understanding their meaning within specific contexts.
