About Colton
Self-taught musician living in San Diego. Plays guitar, keys, synthesizer, drum machine, and sings. Been living the high life with my girlfriend and our two cats while thinking a lot about music and how to make it more accessible to a greater number of people. I started off as a "brainy" person who thought way too much about music before learning to take it easy and simply play, so I'm also interested in helping people who are too worried about the "intellectual" aspects of music (theory, etc.) learn that you really don't need a PhD to start unlocking your sound, just a few basic techniques unlocked on an instrument, an open mind, and a willingness to learn!

I can give you a broad rundown of the techniques essential for learning guitar and keys, as well as some intuition regarding how to practice the "easy" way while still rising up to meet the challenge.
My emphasis isn't so much on music theory as it is learning how to create your own simple melodies, chord progressions, and indeed even songs using the most basic techniques on an instrument.
In fact, I like to get away from music theory to encourage students to explore sound with a more open mind, so as to realize that that creating your own music isn't so much of an intellectual exercise as it is an embodied feeling.
