About Yvonne
I have experience teaching in an informal setting. Being vice president of my college’s chapter of the Society of Physics Students for a year meant I helped construct lesson plans for outreach programs we often did for middle and high schools around the area, and creating something engaging that helps broaden a student’s understanding of the world around them is something I enjoy and strive to achieve.
Creating an environment that fosters thought and open discussion is one of the things I prioritize. Thought should be free-flowing, and I strive to give the confidence of sharing one’s ideas and interpretations of text to a student. Every lesson plan will be unique, as every individual student is unique, and I aim to play on the natural strengths and gifts of a student in order to help them develop and grow.

My lessons are designed to take into account the interests of the student, bringing engaging material to encourage involvement in the lessons. My lessons tend to be discussion oriented, giving the student a chance to walk me along their thought process and explain their ideas to me while I provide support and guidance. I want to teach a student how to stand on their own and develop their natural skills and talents, giving them tools to explore the literary texts and world around them.
Teaching how to be a good writer and reader is about teaching a student how to pinpoint the most important details of their thoughts or the text and be able to build a structure around them, but to do that a student must first learn how they think and what their own unique style of thought is. This is what I aim to help them discover, and then cultivate.
