About Jasmine
Whether a student is looking to improve their grades, prepare for an exam, become a more confident writer, develop a deeper understanding and enjoyment of literature, or prepare for university, I aim to make lessons structured, engaging and supportive.
Depending on the student's needs, lessons may include:
Reading: improving fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and confidence with unfamiliar texts
Writing: essay writing, short-answer responses, creative writing and developing a clear, effective writing style
Literary analysis: close reading, identifying literary techniques, interpreting texts and developing more sophisticated arguments
Essay skills: planning, structuring and developing an argument, selecting evidence and integrating quotations effectively
Critical thinking: moving beyond identifying what a text says to considering how and why it creates meaning
Practice and prompts: guided exercises completed together, as well as independent and timed tasks to build confidence
Exam preparation: working through exam-style questions, developing effective exam techniques and learning how to respond to different question types
University admissions: support with personal statements, university application essays and other admissions writing, including developing ideas, identifying and articulating strengths, structuring an effective statement and refining drafts
Editing and feedback: identifying areas for improvement and learning how to strengthen written work independently
I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My aim is not simply to help a student complete one assignment or prepare for one exam, but to give them the skills and confidence to approach English independently.
All lessons are adapted as a student's needs develop.

I have been tutoring English for over 10 years, working with students across a range of ages and year levels. I am passionate about helping students develop both their confidence and their ability to engage critically and creatively with English.
I hold First Class degrees in English Literature and Law, which I completed concurrently during my undergraduate studies. I am also a qualified lawyer and freelance writer, and I am currently completing a Master's degree in English Literature at the University of Oxford.
My academic and professional background has given me extensive experience in close reading, research, critical analysis, persuasive writing and constructing clear, well-supported arguments. As a lawyer, I have had to communicate complex ideas clearly and adapt my writing for different audiences; as a writer and English Literature student, I continue to work closely with texts, ideas and language.
I bring these skills into my tutoring, but I also recognise that academic ability alone does not make a good tutor. I take the time to understand how each student learns and what they are finding difficult, and I adjust my approach accordingly. Some students may need help building confidence with the fundamentals, while others benefit from being challenged to develop more sophisticated analysis and writing.
I aim to create an encouraging environment where students can ask questions, experiment with their ideas, and gradually become more confident and independent learners.
