About Renate
For a number of years I have been teaching social science at VMBO and the subject of citizenship at the MBO. In addition, I developed the curriculum for the subject of citizenship within newcomers education for a large secondary school in Assen. I am a member of the Democracy & Politics sounding board group of ProDemos, where new teaching material for secondary education is developed within these themes for the social studies course. I also gave Dutch lessons to pupils aged 6-18 at the Dutch school in Quito, Ecuador. I also taught English at various schools in Ecuador. Here I also gave travel guides Dutch lessons but also gave private lessons in Dutch. Apart from teaching, I am a committed mentor of a transition class in newcomers education. I have also developed a LOB learning track in which transition pupils and their parents find their way in the Dutch educational system.

My lessons are in line with the experience of the student. I use different activating methods so that each student can learn the best in his or her way. In addition to activating didactics, I teach students how to learn large pieces of text and how to link concepts to each other. I am involved and committed to my pupils and find learning how to learn very important.
