About Sophie
I have extensive teaching experience in terms of age-range, ability, environment and contexts; and a broad knowledge background across the arts, humanities and social sciences (derived from my interdisciplinary first and second degrees). I am able to encourage young people through an active, participatory approach, creating a supportive and structured environment within which I build on their enthusiasms, setting appropriately demanding standards. Committed to working on the basis of a genuine concern for all my students, I am able to command their respect even in difficult circumstances.

I am primarily a Sociology teacher who has over twenty years teaching experience in a wide variety of settings.
I have taught Sociology, Politics, Philosophy, and English - amongst numerous other subjects - and have worked in schools, colleges, PRUs, SEN Colleges and TEFL centres.
I am very aware of the numerous barriers that students regard as preventing them from learning and/or doing well in exams. I therefore try to instil confidence in my students and do my best to provide an environment in which they feel relaxed and therefore able to learn with ease - I'm very patient!
