About Ben
As a guitar instructor, I've split my time between teaching private lessons, classes, and camps. I've written personalized lesson plans for each individual student that I've had according to their needs and desires. In addition to being a staff teacher, I've also written curriculum for children and adult classes and summer camps at Portman's Music Academy in Savannah, GA. Being an instructor at Portman’s allowed me to gain valuable experience teaching students of a wide range of skill levels and musical goals on a daily basis.
As a graduate of Musician's Institute, I gained daily experience getting thrown into a variety of musical situations that I wasn’t familiar with. I learned how to adapt and to collaborate outside of my comfort zone. After graduating with an Associate's Degree in Guitar Performance, my time at M.I. led my to pursue my loves of songwriting, recording, and teaching. Even though my season as a full time student has come to an end for now, I am a lifelong learner and in the consistent pursuit of opportunities to continue my education.
Most of my time these days is spent songwriting, working as a session guitarist and teaching remotely due to COVID. It's a strange time, but I believe that connecting and learning virtually is much better than not being together at all. I welcome the opportunity to answer any questions you may have and look forward to connecting over our love of music!

My experience has lead me to believe that students excel in their instrument when they are excited about playing it. This is why I spend time finding out where to best cultivate joy in each one of my students. While there are certain fundamentals about learning each instrument that are fairly universal and need to be addressed, I believe each student is different and thus requires a different approach. We won't spend time on things that don't interest you!
