About Leigh
My passion for the Spanish language and the many cultures where it is spoken began 36 years ago. I volunteered in Costa Rica after only 3 years of studying the language and realized that I could communicate and establish relationships with my novice-level second language. Since then, I have continued to spend extended time in different regions of the Spanish-speaking world, including living 10 years in San Diego near the border with Tijuana, Mexico. My vocabulary and accent is a blend of the Spanish spoken in Mexico, Spain, Peru and Costa Rica. Having taught for 24 years at the high school and university levels, I have extensive experience adapting methods and content to individualize students' learning styles and needs. I would like to extend an complimentary introductory session to assess if your needs and my offerings will be a good match.

My approach to language acquisition focuses on communicating with high frequency words and phrases. Young students wanting exposure and guidance, as well as adults who want to focus on job skills and industry-specific terminology will practice listening, reading, writing and speaking each session. While we strive for accuracy, memorization and conjugation will not be a primary focus of our time together.
