About Abby

Hello! My name is Abby, and I am a dedicated educator currently pursuing a dual major in Special Education and Elementary Education, with minors in Reading Instruction and English Language Learners (ELL) at Whitworth University.

My passion is helping students unlock their full potential and discover a true love for learning. I have built a strong foundation in teaching through diverse, hands-on experiences. I have worked as a literacy tutor at the Whitworth Literacy Center, served as a mentor for the EXPRESS program at Spokane Public Schools, and provided individualized private tutoring for elementary and middle school students.

These roles have taught me how to adapt my instruction to meet the unique needs of every learner, whether they need advanced challenges, foundational support, or accommodations for diverse learning styles. I pride myself on creating a welcoming, patient, and professional environment where students feel confident to make mistakes and grow. I am committed to providing high-quality, customized instruction that improves academic skills while building self-esteem and independence.

About the lesson

What sets me apart:
As a university student dual-majoring in special and elementary education with minors in reading instruction and ELL, I bring both academic knowledge and practical, hands-on experience. I have worked extensively with students through university literacy centers, local public school mentoring programs, and private tutoring.

My teaching method:
My approach is entirely student-centered, patient, and adaptable. I know that every student learns differently, so I tailor my teaching methods to fit their unique learning style. Whether a student needs visual aids, interactive reading games, or structured phonics support, I focus on making learning accessible, engaging, and stress-free.

A typical lesson:
A standard session begins with a warm-up activity to get the student comfortable and focused. From there, we move into targeted reading or writing practice aligned with their specific goals—such as tackling complex texts, improving reading comprehension, or practicing spelling. We always end the lesson with a fun, confidence-building activity to reinforce what we’ve learned and keep them excited about English!
