About MJ

I am a certified educator and behavioral health professional with an M.A. in Special Education and Applied Behavior Analysis from Arizona State University. My career spans both the classroom and the clinic. I have worked as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), Program Manager, and Service Coordinator, supporting children with diverse learning needs across a range of settings.

I specialize in working with students Pre-K through middle school, with a focus on mindfulness, English Language Arts, social-emotional learning, and movement. My training in ABA means I bring a research-backed, structured approach to every session, breaking skills into manageable steps, tracking progress, and adjusting instruction to meet each child exactly where they are.

I believe that children learn best when they feel safe, seen, and genuinely engaged. Every session I lead is intentional, warm, and tailored to the individual student. Parents can expect clear communication, consistent follow-through, and a tutor who treats their child's growth as a real priority, not just an appointment on a calendar.

I am currently accepting new students and would love to connect with families who are looking for more than just academics!

My approach is simple: every child is different, and every session should reflect that. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all teaching. I read each child's energy, learning style, and needs and build from there. Whether a student is high-energy and needs movement woven throughout, or quieter and needs a slower, more structured pace, I adapt in real time.

Teaching Method & Techniques:
My background in behavioral health and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) shapes everything I do. I break skills down into small, achievable steps, reinforce progress positively, and make learning feel like play and not work. I use visual supports, multisensory activities, and consistent routines to keep young learners grounded and engaged. For older students, I incorporate reflection, discussion, and real-world connections to deepen understanding.

A Typical Session:
Sessions open with a grounding ritual, a breathing exercise, or a feelings check-in to help the child arrive and settle. From there, we move into a play-based or discussion-driven main activity tailored to the student's goals. We close with a celebration moment and a clear takeaway. Caregivers of younger students receive a brief recap after every session.

What Sets Me Apart:
I hold an M.A. in Special Education with an ABA focus from Arizona State University, and I've worked directly with children in behavioral health settings as an RBT, Senior RBT, and Service Coordinator. I don't just teach subjects; I teach kids how to regulate, connect, and show up for themselves. That whole-child approach is what makes the academic content actually stick.

Who My Lessons Are For:
My sessions are designed for students Pre-K through middle school. I specialize in mindfulness, English Language Arts, social-emotional learning, and movement, and I'm especially experienced supporting children with diverse learning needs, behavioral challenges, or big emotions that get in the way of learning.
