About Andrew

Hey! My name's Andrew. I'm 33 years old, Scottish, and currently reside in Glasgow. I love detangling complicated philosophical and social science-based theory, playing computer games, spending time with my friends & family, and cooking! I have a passion for helping people and always have. My true skill set lies here. The truth is, I've never left education. On my journey, I've experienced the best (and worst!) of the education system. I know what works, and what doesn't, especially when it comes to students. For example, I've experienced the highs and lows. I graduated in June 2014 with a BA (HONS) Applied Social Sciences (Distinction) from the Robert Gordon University. I immediately secured employment as a Study Skills Tutor at my local college a month later. I simultaneously studied a 2 year full-time MA in Philosophy from 2017-2019 while working full-time, graduating with a Merit. However, although I'm grateful to have graduated, I did fail my MA in English Literature the year before - without the right guidance, learning style, and discipline, I failed to balance my work and studies. So I do have first-hand experience of 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼! After 5 years in August 2019, I secured employment as a Student Development & Wellbeing Adviser at the University of Glasgow, where I still currently work in the world-renowned Adam Smith Business School. Alongside philosophy, sociology, psychology, politics, and history, I specialise in core and study skills development, i.e., how to actually write a an A-grade essay, manage your time effectively, and so on.

About the lesson

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗱? - The first lesson is FREE - Online (Zoom) and face-to-face lessons - Lessons are structured around what YOU want - All lessons are 1 hour - Evidence-based insights (research-backed) - Structured, goal-focused format - An experienced and competent tutor 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿? Although lessons are for anyone, such as secondary school students and casual learners, I do specialise in the following: - Pre-honours students (including college students) - Undergraduate students - Postgraduate students (including MRes & PhD) - International students - Students with additional needs, i.e., specific learning difficulties 𝗠𝘆 𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲? In a nutshell, it's extremely personalised and always student-centred. It's constantly adapting. In addition to this, I have a: - Professional but informational approach - Provide a positive, encouraging learning environment - Practice integrative learning, i.e., understanding theories and -concepts in different contexts and disciplines - Practice experiential learning, i.e., focused reflection on what we have discussed - Practice inquiry-based learning, i.e., we solve key problems together 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗲? - 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 accountability emails to keep you motivated - 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 additional services: I specialise in study skills, i.e., research, essay writing, dissertation writing, etc. - 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 additional services: I am also a productivity coach, i.e., using focus & time management strategies, utilising assistive technologies, optimising internet browsers through learning applications, etc. - 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 learning and revision material

Deadly! I think Andrew is an excellent tutor because he makes you feel so comfortable and he provides you with great revision techniques that would be beneficial for revision. Also, if you don't understand anything, then he will take some time out to help you understand. Andrew is genuinely very helpful and a great tutor to have. I highly recommend him if you need help with revision.
