About Joie

In May 2021, I received my B.A. in Dance Performance and Choreography from Spelman College. I began dancing in the dance ministry at my home church in elementary school and fell in love with moving, connecting, and performing. Soon after, my studies at Jones-Haywood Dance School in Washington, D.C. followed. Over the next 10 years, I trained in ballet, tap, modern (Horton, Limon, Graham), musical theatre... every class I could get into!

I've always been drawn to sharing my love of dance and performance art with others. By the age of eleven, I had planned, organized, and executed several dance camps in the metro DC area for girls ages 7-13 through my church and Girl Scout troop. I continued to teach and choreograph at my dance studio, and several middle/high schools, all while performing throughout the U.S. with the Jones-Haywood Pre Professional Program before heading off to the University of Oklahoma in 2016.

I have been lucky enough to teach and mentor several classes of students from when they were 5 or 6, who are now college-bound pursuing dance degrees. It is SO important to me to connect with people beyond dance, I love to see my peers and students grow!

In my post-graduate work, I utilize holistic healing practices in all meetings. I want to help you, discover your best you!

About the lesson

Our session is a safe, defined space that allows movers to be challenged physically, as well as mentally in each session to explore their individual artistry. In my lessons, I always provide a progressive warm-up paired with affirmations and positive conversation. My goals for dancers are to:

- grow technically your desired areas,
- decrease learning time for choreography/exercises
- expand your freestyle, and
- have fun!

In every session, we will:

- practice conditioning technique drills,
- work toward building your confidence, and
- execute rhythm and coordination exercises.

My style is influenced by modern, ballet, jazz, and hip hop genres. Over the years, I have curated customized unique lesson plans and choreography for beginner movers to professional-level dancers of all ages.
