About YAO

I am a Mandarin teacher currently teaching at an Australian Community Language School, where I work with children and teenagers from a wide range of language and cultural backgrounds. My teaching focuses on standard Putonghua pronunciation, helping students develop accurate tones and clear speech from the beginning.

I have experience teaching young learners and school-aged students, and I understand that every student learns differently. I am patient, supportive, and attentive to individual needs, especially when working with beginners who may feel shy or unsure about speaking Mandarin.

As a teacher, I believe a positive learning experience is just as important as progress. I aim to create a calm, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and gradually building confidence in speaking Mandarin.

I enjoy working closely with both students and parents, providing clear learning goals and steady feedback so progress is visible and reassuring. My goal is to help students develop a strong language foundation while enjoying the learning process.

About the lesson

My Mandarin lessons focus on standard Putonghua pronunciation, helping students develop clear, accurate tones and correct speaking habits from the start. Pronunciation is treated as a foundation, not an afterthought, so students can build confidence and avoid common mistakes early on.

I currently teach at an Australian Community Language School, where I work with students from diverse language and cultural backgrounds. My lessons follow a clear structure while remaining flexible and supportive, reflecting teaching practices commonly used in Australian educational settings.

Lessons are suitable for children, primary school students, and teenagers, especially beginners or learners who want to strengthen pronunciation, listening, and basic speaking skills. For younger learners, I use visuals, simple explanations, and interactive activities. For older students, lessons include more guided speaking practice and practical language use.

Each lesson is tailored to the student’s age, level, and learning goals. I aim to create a positive, encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable speaking Mandarin and parents can feel confident about their child’s progress.
