About Willow
Hi there! My name's Willow and I'd be thrilled to be your tutor. I know what it's like to go through intensive periods of study. I've been through my own fair share of demanding academic eras, and I know how overwhelming it can all feel. My goal as a tutor is to help you find a way back into your subject by breaking difficult terminology down, developing a personal understanding of the text, and finding the fun (and funny) in the subject again. I've used these techniques throughout my own education at elite university programs at Stanford University and Goldsmiths University, as well as in my career as a creative professional in the US and the UK. I tutor because I want to pass on the knowledge I have been handed by my own teachers and mentors--the stuff that helped me succeed no matter how fierce the challenge.

I tutor English Language and Literature GCSE. It’s one of my favorite subjects to teach because every student brings their own interpretation; that’s what makes English so fascinating (that, and I confess to a love for grammar—it’s fun to be precise!).
My goal is to help you build your confidence in carrying out precise literary analyses of texts: together we will build a Swiss Army Knife of metaphors, similes, structures, narrative voices (and more!) to give you the skills and terminology to break down any text you might encounter. I promise you that having the analytical lingo under your belt is the number one way to master the English GCSE.
I like to keep lessons varied: a mixture of collaborative reading, games, visuals, and even the odd... practice exam question. The more you can bring your own understanding and challenges to the session, the more we can tailor our study to best support and target the topics that make the most sense for you. And with that, I look forward to meeting you and working together!
