About Jean Paul

Teaching French as a foreign language was the starting point of my career as a francophone linguist – my main job and passion for about 16 years. A great opportunity too for our family of four to spend some exciting years in South Korea, the United States, Belgium and the United Kingdom. Translation from English into French, my major at uni, then slowly took over until I became a United Nations translator in Tanzania, in Cambodia and later as an e-nomad. This was to be my main job for the next 26 years. Now, for Stage 3, I'm escaping the loneliness of the long distance translator and moving back to my original passion – teaching French. And doing so remotely, this time round, to take advantage of all the technological wonders that came to be between 1998 and 2025!

About the lesson

Lessons can be anything from 15 minutes – when you have a quick issue to resolve – to 60 minutes – if what suits you best is a long and varied session that makes you feel fully immersed. After our first meeting, every lesson comes with an outline and a recap. I keep a record of our activities and your progress and needs, even when it's just conversation. I use a variety of materials. Real-life, educational or designed by myself. And will point you to activities that complement our lessons. What we say, watch, read or write will be mainly in French. It works. Dozens of my students have learnt French from scratch without needing to use their mother tongue or English at all. The trick is to use every little bit of French you know in so many different ways that it becomes part of you!
