About Bo

Writing is a powerful indicator of language proficiency. I have a strong foundation in written expression, having received an award in the Soong Ching Ling Essay Competition on "Loving Nature from an Early Age" during elementary school and securing first prize in a citywide essay competition in high school. As a scientist, I've often reflected on why many Chinese students dedicate years to studying English yet struggle with effective communication. Through my experience and observation, I've realized that the methodology and understanding of what is essential in language learning play crucial roles. It's important to focus on core skills and avoid getting sidetracked by less critical aspects. I consider myself an educator, not just a teacher, and I approach teaching with responsibility and dedication. My goal is to help you achieve a level of language proficiency that allows you to communicate confidently and effectively.

About the lesson

I begin by evaluating your Mandarin level and learning goals to create a personalized learning plan structured specifically for your needs. While I plan to use official Chinese language textbooks, I'm happy to incorporate materials you find interesting and helpful.
My lessons place a strong emphasis on active conversation to really build your speaking proficiency, alongside picture books and narratives to develop strong reading comprehension. I’d like to bring the fascinating historical tales behind Chengyu (those four-character idioms!). Learning these adds real depth to your vocabulary and helps you express yourself concisely, efficiently and sound educated.
I will teach you how to distinguish similar phrases with subtle nuances in simple ways. Having learned languages myself, I understand what's truly matters in study and can guide you to skip the unnecessary time-wasting extraneous.
