About Alex

Hi my name is Alex and I LOVE programming.

This is probably because I have been programming since I was very little, but it has always been my one and only passion! I have created hundreds of small video games from all over the web as well as filed patents in A.I., computer science and more!

I have worked at gaming companies and tutored at universities all over the valley and now I make games for myself too. I recently was tutoring kids at the Code Ninja Academy and assisting them in bringing their courses to schools because I love what those programs are doing for children.

I believe everyone should learn to program as young as possible. I did ok in high-school but I am better at math, science, chemistry, English, psychology etc. than all of my peers because I taught myself these things while programming. Teach kids to program first, and everything else will follow.

About the lesson

I come from a family of special needs and having Asperger's myself I have had to adapt to a wide array of learning & communication styles to not only accommodate my family's needs but for my own educational needs as well.

As a result I am great at adjusting to an individual's learning style and accommodating a comfortable pace for my students while pushing a hands on learning by immersion approach. I employ heavy use of metaphor and abstraction help bring high level programming concepts back down to earth so students can stay deeply immersed in subject material without feeling overwhelmed by it.

I have been programming since I was a small child and it is second nature to me by this point so I have an easy time figuring out how to make concepts relatable and understandable to students. As a connoisseur of pop culture I am great at adjusting to the individual interests of each student to relate programming to them in a way that is more meaningful and personable so that it will better stick in their mind.

Most important of all, I AM FUN! Ask any of my students, no matter how dire things get or how stressed classes are getting I make to sure to always make students laugh and have a great time. Higher executive brain function is literally stripped away while we are feeling stressed out, so focusing on maintaining a fun environment actually enhances a student's learning capacity and retention. Confidence is 30% of capability.

I am a master of Unity & C-based languages and prefer helping students in the higher levels of learning, but I am also ABA trained and exceptional at teaching programming to students of any age and ESPECIALLY special needs as my own daughter also has autism.
