About Debra
I have a lot of experience as an educator in private schools as well as homeschooling my own eight children. I learned to meet the child where they are in their learning journey and build on any strengths she/he has. I also have several advanced degrees to draw upon in my quest to find the right avenue for the student. It should always be fun to learn. If it's not fun, the teacher isn't doing her job.

I am in the process of becoming a counselor. I have worked with refugees and young adults with disabilities. I have taught in the preschool classroom as well as middle school online in social studies. I tailor each lesson to the student's interests. I start where the student is in her/his progress.
I start the lesson with a review of what we covered last time and homework. Then I introduce several new concepts. I go into those concepts a little deeper. I check in with the student to make sure there is understanding. Then we wrap it up with an assignment and a positive affirmation about the student's learning ability and the progress she has made. I always keep it positive and reinforcing. I am NEVER negative with the student. Even the slightest progress is moving forward. Everyone learns at a unique rate. As long as we are moving forward, there is hope.
