About Imogen
I am currently a third-year student at Durham University. For my A-levels I chose English Literature, History, Religious Studies and Philosophy, plus an EPQ. I received offers from Bristol, Exeter and Edinburgh in addition to an interview from Corpus Christi College at Cambridge University. In my spare time I enjoy figurative oil painting, horse-riding, hiking and skiing. At university I am actively part of many societies notably including the Durham Union (a globally famous debate society that has invited a vast range of politicians, scholars and celebrities to speak). Throughout my academic journey, I have attended private, grammar and state schools. Therefore, I feel I am well equipped to help students with exams that are taken at a diverse range of institutions.

For 11 plus students:
Once I know which exam your child will take whether it’s: GL Assessment, ISEB Common Pre-Test or a bespoke test offered by Independent Schools:
• We will go through the main three areas that 11 plus exams test: Reading comprehension, “SPaG” and creative writing.
• I will go through past papers with the student and get them to verbally answer each question and offer an explanation of how they would approach each question.
• Next, I will correct the student’s answers, and we will go through the mark scheme together.
• In between lessons, I will email parents practice papers that I want the child to complete as homework which we will go through at the beginning of each lesson.
• Each lesson should take only an hour. Children at this age tend to have a limited attention span, so any longer would be fruitless.
For GCSE students:
• Once I'm aware of the student’s exam board and relevant readings, I will go through in stages each exam question for papers 1 and 2.
• We will inspect exemplar essays and dissect the relevant assessment objectives (AOs) you need to familiarise yourself with, and what percentage each AO is worth per question.
• I will get the student to write a response to a practice question that I will mark in my own time and talk through the student’s answer at the beginning of each session.
• For poetry and short stories, we will take time to re-read and annotate where relevant, as this tends to be a challenging area for many GCSE students.
• Each lesson should take only 1 hour, of course if you the student wants to cover more content, I can do two-hour lessons.
