About M Madeleine

Hi! I'm Madeleine. I trained as an art teacher and taught Art & Design in my native Scotland for eight years, before going to teach English in Mongolia for six. The latter two of those was actually teaching English as a first language - don't ask me how that works but I did!

My energy, enthusiasm and dynamic lessons made me popular with students. My ability to speak Mongolian also earned me not a little kudos.

I actually trained in Silversmithing and Jewellery from the Glasgow School of Art and love all aspects of art and creativity. I am passionate about reading, writing, cooking, baking, walking, running, cycling and my faith.

About the lesson

As a language teacher, I went above and beyond for my students. My lessons were popular for many reasons:

- a multi-sensory and multi-modal approach, keeping lessons varied and active, whilst catering for a variety of learning styles

- use of props and visuals

- engaging, experiential content, such as Easter egg hunts, trips to an English book cafe, creating a pop-up cafe to practice phrases, drawing on popular TV shows, films and music, using scenarios and game show settings to bring language to life

- dialogues catering for the specific professional subjects students were learning

- use of gamification platforms for positivity, motivation, collaboration and interpersonal skills

- a postitive, can-do environment, with the learner at the centre of the experience

- use of chants and raps to help memorisation in an enjoyable way

- topical subjects, to keep learning fresh, relevant and engaging

- teaching culture and transferable skills through lessons
