About Lucy

I am a 31-year-old from Yorkshire who had an urge to explore the world! With this in mind, I decided to learn French and Spanish to open up doors to travel, learning and making friends with people from different cultures.

I left secondary school with A levels in French, Drama and Latin and went on to study French and Hispanic Studies at the University of Liverpool, which is where I learnt my Spanish and graduated with a First Class degree.

Thanks to my language learning, I have had opportunities to work in France, Spain, Argentina and Quebec in Canada, and I would happily tell you more about these adventures in person!

My teaching experience has allowed me to teach students of all ages in groups, individually, online and in-person:
- English Language Assistant in Argentina for 5 months
- English Language Assistant in Quebec for 9 months
- Teacher of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) online for a year
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in French and Spanish from the University of Cambridge
- 3 years' experience teaching French and Spanish at Reigate Grammar School

About the lesson

I am friendly and supportive in my teaching, believing that students learn best when they are motivated and look forward to their lessons. Mistakes are welcome in my lessons - this is how we learn! The main thing is that we have a go.

If you are a school student, my sessions will support your school learning, blending speaking, listening, reading and writing practice. We will regularly go over grammar points, ensuring you not only recognise the grammar rules, but also feel confident in applying them yourself. Got an exam coming up? Not a problem! We can go over exam skills too.

I also teach adults who wish to learn from scratch or build on prior learning. In these sessions we can focus on specific goals (e.g. business or holiday vocabulary), or follow a more varied curriculum, similar to what a student learns at school but adapted for your interests.

I also believe that learning about the culture of a place is a fundamental part of language learning, so I aim to include information about the music, dance, customs, food and history of a place too.
