About Rebecca
I am a third-year linguistics student with a GPA of 4.0, and I am simultaneously working toward certification in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I have four years of experience teaching swimming lessons to disabled and/or d/Deaf individuals, and I participated in the City of Guelph’s further development of their Adapted Aquatics program for students with disabilities.
Specific to DHH individuals’ language development, in 2020/2021, I participated in secondary and reflective research regarding accommodations for DHH students who wish to learn an oral and/or written language as a second language.
I am passionate about accessibility for all! I do not need to see any proof of disability diagnosis to provide accommodations, so please do not hesitate to say that you need something from me to improve your experience.
Your culture and language are welcome here, and I believe that they will aid your language-learning journey. I am excited to work with you!

Learn English from a Deaf tutor who signs ASL and who is passionate about language access for the Deaf community! l feel that it is important to prioritize ASL as the Deaf community’s accessible language of communication and identity; therefore, I utilize this ideology in my teaching by emphasizing English as a tool. This means that I will focus on writing contexts and registers that are specific to your goals. For example, we could concentrate on email structure and formal writing, which could be used to advocate against disability- or Deaf-based discrimination. Depending on your needs, I will structure your hour with an interactive 30-minute instructional block. This is done in ASL and will focus on the lexical and/or structural aspects of English. This would be followed by a written practice session (e.g. writing texts or emails back and forth, paragraph practice) that highlights the components that were discussed during the instructional block. If you are interested in learning French or Spanish literacy skills at an elementary or intermediate level, that can be arranged for $20.00 per hour. I welcome all questions and comments, so please do not hesitate to ask!
