About Leila
While studying English at Minnesota State University Moorhead in MN, I took numerous writing courses as part of the degree curriculum. I also worked as a writing tutor at the university's writing center. As a tutor, I helped students with writing assignments and provided grammar lessons for English as Second Language (ESL) students. I graduated with a dual Bachelor of Arts in English and Mass Communications.
When pursuing my Master of Science degree in Technical Communication at the University of Washington in Seattle, I took advanced writing courses as part of the curriculum. I graduated with a Master of Science in Technical Communication.
I've held technical writing and senior technical writing positions at companies including Microsoft, Oracle, Capital One, and Deloitte Federal Consulting. Through this work experience, I've created and edited a broad range of technical, product, and marketing documentation.
At Capital One, I taught writing sessions to engineers during lunch and learn sessions. At Deloitte Federal Consulting, I created writing resources to help consultants improve their writing skills. The focus of the writing resources included tips on:
- Improving grammar
- Eliminating wordiness
- Enhancing clarity and conciseness
- Using templates for consistency in documents
