About Ali

Hi! I'm Ali. Translator and interpreter, and language teacher.
My number one passion is human communication. I teach Spanish and I guide people in their unique ✧learning process✧.

From my degree in Translating I’ve taken away my love for words. I see language as a tool to get to know ourselves, connect with one another and build strong communities.

One of my favourite hobbies is learning languages. I'm fluent in Galician, French and German and I can get around in Italian, Portuguese and Polish. My greatest superpowers are 1) I'm not scared of making mistakes, 2) I can easily turn any repetitive task (such as memorising a conjugation) into a game.

I did part of my university degree in the United Kingdom, and I have lived in Poland and Germany. Wherever I go, I make a point to get in touch with the local community and get to know their unique spirit . This philosophy has allowed me to see the world through the eyes of people who are very different from me, and develop great intuition and empathy, qualities that I consider essential to be an effective language teacher.

I have received training from the Cervantes Institute, and have many years of experience preparing students of all levels get their DELE certificate. In my DELE classes, I strike a balance between exam training and practical skills, so that you feel that what you are studying will have real-life applications.

At the age of 29, I was diagnosed with ADHD, and this discovery has forced me to think back on my youth and my own journey as a student. I've spent the last few years researching about the many diverse ways in which people exist and learn in the world, and I've committed to making my classrooms as inclusive and accommodating as I can. So, if you are neurodivergent or feel like your mind works atypically, this is your safe space. After all, if I could do it, so can you! (◡̀_◡́)ᕤ

I've spent my whole life learning languages, and half of it teaching them to people of all ages and needs. As a self-taught polyglot, I am familiar with the obstacles that can exist when learning a new language, and I have a wide range of strategies to help you overcome them. As a native teacher and speaker, I know the most subtle nuances of the Spanish language and can help you feel confident and fluent in both casual conversations and serious/professional environments.

I I believe in learning through curiosity, joy, and ease. In my classes, I create an environment that nurtures mutual trust and fosters self-expression. I prioritise effective oral communication, meeting you where you are at each step of the process. Correction is never more important for me than your ability to express your ideas confidently, and successfully. I use a "spiral methodology", by which we'll periodically review concepts in a dynamic way, so you can see your own progress as we go.

I use Zoom and Google Meet, although if you prefer another platform, I'm open to try it out. I keep a shared log of our lessons and classroom material on Google Drive. Organisation is key! 𓀡

To be more consistent with my principles, I use the "sliding scale" system in my rates. If you cannot afford the price of my classes, I invite you to let me know and suggest an alternative rate, so we can reach an agreement that takes into account your needs and mine. Likewise, if you would like to contribute with a higher rate than the one listed on my profile, please tell me. With your contribution, you'll be making it possible for me to maintain this system and help more people improve their language skills.
