About Augustus

Hello!

I have been playing chess competitively for 6+ years and been teaching in classrooms, private lessons, and clubs for 4 years.

My most recent project, constructing a chess curriculum for my K-8 school, allowed me deep insight into the basic building blocks of learning chess. Now I can apply what I've learned to your learning as a personal level.

About the lesson

It is imperative that a coach learns about their students. This means what you like, how you play, what your personality is. Often this involves playing a few games together or looking at previously played games so I can begin to understand you as a player.

Next we will talk about your goals, how much chess you've done in the past, right now, and how much we need to do to reach your goal. Making actionable, measurable, and reasonable goals is key.

Then we apply what we have learned! Maybe you need to work on forks, blunder checking, pins, strategy, openings, endgames, or just your mental game. We will work on this weakness and make it your strength!

Finally, we reevaluate your games, finding where your weaknesses lie now and repeat the whole process over again.

I can teach a specific topic if you so wish whether it be specific opening or tactic, but the method above is a more holistic approach to learning.

My hourly rate is open for negotiation.
