About William

My approach goes beyond suggesting broad, big picture improvements or merely correcting technical inaccuracies. I focus on developing the qualities that distinguish first-class philosophy: identifying the strongest argument, anticipating objections, and communicating a single, complex chain reasoning with clarity and concision. Rather than telling students what to think, I help them develop their own ideas, test them rigorously, and help refine them, line-by-line, into clear and efficient arguments.

Above all, I want students to leave each session with greater confidence in their own ability to excel. My goal is not simply to improve one essay, but to give students an extensive understanding of the writing techniques they must employ to get their first-class degree.

About the lesson

If you are an undergraduate philosophy student who wants to develop the skills needed to produce consistent, first-class work, my services are for you. Whether you're struggling with difficult concepts or aiming to push an already strong draft to the highest possible standard, every session is tailored to your individual goals.

Lessons take place online in one-to-one video calls, typically lasting one hour. Before our sessions, you may send me any required reading or lecture slides you don't fully understand. During our sessions, I can guide you through the complex philosophical ideas you need to understand for your classes clearly and systematically.

Alongside these sessions, I provide a personalised essay feedback service, showing you exactly how to transform an essay plan or draft into a focused, efficient, and surgically precise first-class essay.

I graduated with a First Class degree from the University of Birmingham, finishing at the top of my year, and was awarded both the ETC Squire Philosophy & Theology Prize and the Roger Chance Essay Prize. For the past three years, I have provided specialist essay critique and philosophy tutoring for others on my course, helping students improve not only their grades but also the analytical skills that underpin success throughout an undergraduate philosophy degree and enrich one's life.
