About Karan

Hello, I’m Karan, a university student and dedicated chess tutor for beginners and young learners. I have been playing chess since the age of 8, am a two-time TDSB City Champion, and contributed to a team that won an inter-university global chess tournament. My teaching approach combines extensive experience, strategic insight, and a patient, methodical style to provide lessons that are both educational and engaging. I tailor each session to the student’s abilities and interests, fostering critical thinking, confidence, and a genuine enjoyment of the game within a structured and supportive learning environment.

About the lesson

Hi, I’m Karan, a university student and passionate chess tutor for beginners and kids. My approach focuses on making chess fun, understandable, and engaging, while teaching foundational skills like piece movement, tactics, strategy, and critical thinking. I use interactive games, puzzles, and real-life examples to help students grasp concepts quickly.

A typical lesson includes:

Warm-up (5 min): Quick recap of previous lessons or a fun chess puzzle.

Instruction & practice (45–50 min): Teaching new concepts, practicing tactics, and playing guided mini-games.

Review & challenge (5–10 min): Summarizing key ideas, solving a challenge puzzle, and discussing next steps.

What sets me apart is my patience, enthusiasm, and personalized approach — I adapt to each student’s pace and interests, turning learning into an enjoyable experience. These lessons are designed for beginners and children of all ages who want to learn chess, improve their strategic thinking, or develop confidence in gameplay.
