About Bill
I've been teaching and writing for over 20 years because I love doing both. As a teacher, I have worked with youth from ages 10-21 including university settings at NYU and Pratt Institute. I have taught essay writing, screenwriting, creative writing, and comparative literature. I have run an afterschool program that provided young people with learning in everything from entrepreneurialism to art to physical education. As a writer, I've been developing and writing stories for film/TV for my entire career. The bottom line is I love writing and I love teaching and so that's how I spend my time.

My first priority is dialogue with my students. I want to know not only what their academic needs are but how they feel about the work ahead. I want to know what they think and feel about the tutoring process as well, and if they have any wants or needs with regard to the process.
As for my methods and techniques, I approach each student as a unique individual, but generally, I assess the student's needs in the beginning, set an action plan with realistic goals, and then go about the work with an eye on our goals. I believe in setting SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
A typical lesson plan is structured like this: a brief check-in or vibe check to prepare for the work ahead; a brief overview of the goals for the day; the work itself; a wrap-up which includes goals to accomplish before our next session.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my vast experience in the field of education. I have been a visiting professor at NYU and other universities, I design and run workshops, and I write curriculum for organizations including Nantucket Film Festival. In addition, I simply enjoy teaching and getting to know new students so I can best help them.
My BA in Secondary Education has provided me with tools that are transferable to so many ages and types of students. My primary specialty is writing of any kind—from fiction to creative nonfiction to essays and more. I love demystifying the writing process so more people can get the words out of their heads and onto the page. In addition to writing, I'm confident in all literacy topics and general education needs like study skills.
