I met Michelle at school when she moved to the Eastern Cape. She has a great passion for special needs education, which she showed in the classroom and in sharing information with our school staff. I 'met' Michelle when I edited her 2018 Masters' thesis 'Accommodation of Grade R learners with cerebral palsy by teachers and practitioners : a case study of two special schools'. I liked the way she wrote it, not just as an academic project, but in a way that would bring together all the people involved: the children, their parents, their teachers and all the therapists that came into contact with them. She is a 'people person' who loves to share her knowledge and make it accessible. Her experience in various roles in various schools around southern Africa makes her uniquely qualified to support individuals with special needs and their families - because special needs are never an isolated problem but have ramifications that ripple outwards. She doesn't just see a symptom but also the root cause, and her broad background and warm manner enable her to find a holistic solution.
