About Emily
Teaching is important as school gives children the opportunity to flourish and broaden their mindsets, outside of just Maths and English. Being in school, not only gives the students the chance to learn about the world but the chance to learn how to exist within it, whether that be through Languages, Sport, or the core subjects. Teaching is important to me because I want to be able to pass on my knowledge and expertise of the subject. I always had fantastic French teachers at school, and I want to be able to share the passion for French that they gave to me, with the next generation of students. I would be a suitable candidate for this course as I am committed to my studies and have a very positive and focused work ethic. I am enthusiastic, trustworthy and committed to providing the highest standard of education to every student I have the opportunity of working with, regardless of their background.

Hello! I’m Emily, a final year French student at The University of York. I’ve studied French for over 10 years and I spent 8+ months living in France in 2022/23.
I’ve been tutoring for 2+ years and I’ve mostly worked with GCSE students needing to boost their grades. I typically work with students aged between 11-16 and I’d be happy to expand to A-Level tuition if the student required.
I like to start with a ‘get to know you’ session where we discuss what the struggles with, any upcoming mocks or exams they need to prepare for and what methods the student finds the most useful when they’re studying. I typically like to base my sessions around guided exam questions to help the student build confidence. I also try to create speaking/writing practice based on a students interests/passions. The best way to engage a student is to find common ground! I’m also a big believer that a student should never feel like they have to speak consistent French, it’s ok to ask in English!
Most of the students I have worked with have used the AQA specification but I’m ready and able to take students from other exam boards as well.
