About Aoife

My name is Aoife and I am a recent graduate in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at UCD with first class honours. I worked as a tutor throughout my undergrad, and really enjoy builing confidence in my students so they can master the material, not just get by for an exam.

About the lesson

My lessons are 1-1.5 hours, and based on my pracitice as a tutor in the UCD Maths Support Centre helping other students master key concepts for their course work. I have worked with more then 20 students for Leaving Cert in past years, and I am looking for new students for this academic year.

1. Initial Assessment & Goal-Setting

Begin with a short diagnostic quiz or discussion to identify strengths, weaknesses, and confidence levels.
Set clear, achievable goals (e.g., grade targets, topic mastery, exam-technique improvement).

2. Concept Breakdown & Clear Explanations

Teach each topic using simple, step-by-step explanations.
Break complex ideas into manageable chunks.

3. Guided Practice

Work through example questions together so the student sees the method in action.
Model exam-style methods, showing how to structure answers for maximum marks.

4. Independent Practice & Skill-Building

Students then try similar questions independently to strengthen understanding.
I provide targeted support where needed and identify misconceptions quickly.

5. Exam Technique & Mark-Scheme Training

Teach students how to:

decode exam questions
show working clearly
avoid common pitfalls
pick up method marks even when they’re unsure

Use real past papers and mark-scheme guidance to build exam confidence.

6. Memory & Recall Strategies

Use proven revision techniques such as:

spaced repetition
retrieval practice
quick-fire starters
topic recall quizzes

Helps students retain formulae, methods and definitions.

7. Regular Progress Tracking

Mini-assessments to track improvement and adjust lesson focus.
Provide constructive feedback and encourage reflective learning.

8. Personalised Support

Every lesson is tailored to the student’s pace and learning style.
Encourage questions, build confidence, and create a positive learning environment.
