About Olivia

Hello! I'm Olivia, and I'm currently studying English at the University of Oxford. I wasn't naturally smart and I struggled at the subject especially at A Level, and I used to be terrified of admissions. It took me a year to improve my A Levels from a BBD to A*A*A, so I've been on both ends of the spectrum academically, and I know the best way to improve your grade quickly.
I believe that anyone can get the perfect A Level Grades- it's a matter of using your strengths and your interests to enhance your potential. It's a very demanding two years of your life, but with the right support and guidance from someone who's gone through admissions and exams just recently, I am more than able to help you through!
English A Levels are notoriously subjective, so my lessons are designed to improve your grade by making its marking criteria fit you and your ability, rather than the other way around. There will be extra work on the side, such as reading lists and articles that we go through in the next lesson, to make sure your wider knowledge and opinion on the text are top range! I also will annotate and look through any timed essays you have to show your strengths and how to get the top mark through them.
For Uni Admissions, I will be using a plethora of Oxford Personal Statements as well as my own to use as a foundation for the structure. Lessons will consist of writing the draft statement and then I will go away and annotate it for the next, until it is one that you are confident in.

About the lesson

My teaching prioritises intergrating the interests and identity of the tutee into the cirriculum, so that their traits become a strength to their A Level/personal statement rather than a potential disadvantage. To understand how the course can be used to reflect their greatest potential, I ask for 500 words about themselves before the first lesson, to allow me to find the best connection to their subject possible.
My previous experience has come from working with Beanstalk Charity to help improve children's Literacy skills, which has enhanced my teaching skills and patience for children and young adults who may be easily frustrated or intimated by new content to learn. It has also reinforced my effective teaching method of listening to the tutee in order to allow maximum engagement with the learning material. At A Level, my former tutee of 2022 has achieved full marks in her Edexcel English Coursework.
Specifically, I take 45 minute to 2 hour sessions to help with personal statements or English A Level, for students 15-19 years old.
