About Logan
I am an enthusiastic and curious history undergraduate at the University of Bristol with a passion for humanities. I am considering further study in Intellectual History, with a focus on the History and Philosophy of Science. I excelled in my A-levels and would love to help current students achieve their best possible grades. Essay subjects can be very hard to perfect, with content that can seem hard to approach. My teaching style will focus on building a fundamental understanding of the content and its concepts, vital to cultivating an essay style that has excellent communication and argument. I have a personal understanding of my subject's specific difficulties. Using evidence and analysis effectively in history can be hard to pinpoint. Creating a strong argument, that includes scholars and evidence, can challenge even the best students of philosophy and politics. Using my own success in these areas as well as a personal approach to the student's learning and writing style, I believe these can be overcome.

In my subjects, a critical understanding of the content is most important, as without it students cannot create sustained and balanced arguments that form the basis of an essay. I will begin by assessing a student in line with these criteria to see where we need to start. I will then establish how the student best learns new information and how to target their weaknesses. A typical lesson after this will be working towards perfecting their essay technique. This will either be in establishing a critical understanding of content, recapping it with a focus on the main debates, or targeting weaknesses i.e. exploring counter-arguments and any gaps or assumptions in their reasoning. I have already tutored around 7 pupils on MyTutor, all of whom have seen large improvements in their essays and grades, as well as a greater enjoyment and love of their subject!
